A cool-synthetic accent of the new French chanson scene. Although Mathieu Lescop originally hails from a completely different corner: his previous band Asyl played a guitar rock reminiscent of Téléphone. For his solo debut, as he told the weekly magazine Les Inrockuptibles, Lescop went looking for the intensity of Piaf and Brél. He didn't need to mention the perhaps most obvious influence, Etienne Daho in the interview with the experts. "Lescop" is an impressive first album that brings francophone pop music as close to wave as Dominique A did with his debut "La fossette". The single "La forêt" also landed on many a playlist of local underground DJs. The Dietrich homage "Marlène" is a bonus track for the German edition, which makes perfect sense.
